Tellico Heat’s First Year of Participation in Montgomery was a Success!

The weather was southern hot. The racing competion was tough. A good time was had by all festival race goers. 

Tellico Heat brought 23 paddlers to the event. The race consisted of two qualifying heats, and one final heat for each of the two racing categories of Mixed 200 meters in a 20-paddler boat, and for the first time, a 10-paddler boat. Tellico Heat took advantage of race preparaion with our very own 10-paddler boat, so racing in the 10-paddler boat was different due to the shape of the boat, but Tellico, in true Tellcio Heat fasion, rose to the occasion and while we did not finish in the top three for a medal spot, did place 4th overall in both events and won all three of our 10-paddler races heats. It’s easy to say, that the team caught the 10-paddler bug, and  agreed that racing in other 10-paddler boats would be a part of our new normal. 

For some team members, it was their first race, and it was evident that they too caught the racing bug. It was so intense and exhilherating that tears of joy were shed after that first heat. It was a beautiful thing.

Tellico Heat placed 

From our race captain, Virginia, Tellico Heat placed 4th in the 10 person and 5th in the 20 person. We definately held our own. Great job everyone! Exiting Results:
