Spring Training Camps
Some paddlers choose to attend spring training camps to prepare for the upcoming season: GWN and PanAm Camps. Coaches partipcate in training opportunites to earn certification. Tellico Heat Dragon Boat Club is a member of the Southeastern Dragon Boat Federation.
GWN Camp
GWN Dragon Boat returned to Westgate Lakes Resort in Orlando (9500 Turkey Lake Road, Orlando, FL, 32819) on April 4-6, 2025! Coaching was provided by internationally experienced coaches and paddlers who shared their technique, tips and training regimes.
Three paddlers from Tellico Heat DBC participated in the GWN Florida Dragon Boat Accelerated 3-day Camp in April held in Orlando. This year a few of us decided to go a different direction and attended the GWN mini camp in Early April before Tellico Heat boats were even in the water. Excellent coaching from a Dragon Boat Hall of Fame member and a beautiful very windy three days.

FLORIDA TRAINING CAMP
While your competitors are still waiting for the water to warm up, you could be giving your dragon boat season a jump-start with a paddling vacation at Westgate Lakes Resort in Orlando, Florida!
This camp is designed for all ages and levels – whether you’re a first-time paddler or a seasoned racer, it’s the perfect way to sharpen your skills, escape the cold, and connect with like-minded dragon boaters.
Coaching will be provided by internationally experienced coaches and paddlers, sharing techniques, training regimes, and insider tips to elevate your paddling.
Two program options:
- Full-week Camp (April 13-18) – includes racing at the Sarasota International Dragon Boat Festival (April 18th at Nathan Benderson Park)
- 3-Day Accelerated Camp – A condensed program for those short on time.

PanAm Dragon Boat Camp - April
Ten Paddlers from Tellico Heat DBC participated in the 2025 PanAM Dragon Boat Camp in April and raced in a Mixed 20-paddler boat comprising of two other teams at the end of the camp week in the Tampa International Dragon Boat Festival in three 450m race heats. Some paddlers also raced with other clubs to help fiill boats in a mixed race, and one paddler joined an all women’s 10-paddler boat earnng a silver medal in that event!
Several paddlers from Tellico Heat are planning on participating in this training camp in 2026.

Endurance Paddles Thursday paddles are designed to enjoy the lake while building paddling endurance. Every week brings new locations, enormous fun, and team-building. Often THDBC utilzies the “new to us” 10-paddler boat.

Sarasota International Dragon Boat Festival -GWN
Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a newcomer to the sport, the festival offers racing opportunities for all. The Sport Division promises intense, high-level competition with 200m, 500m, and the adrenaline-pumping 2k pursuit—perfect for crews looking to sharpen their edge.

Tampa International Dragon Boat Festival
The Tampa International Dragon Boat Festival offers a full array of racing classes in both 20-paddler standard boats and 10-paddler small boats. All available racing classes are listed on the menu to the left. The race distance is 450 meters for all straight-line races.
