Tellico Heat’s inaugural year in Montgomery was a resounding success with southern heat and fierce competition that ensured a wonderful time for all festival attendees. Our team of 23 paddlers participated in two qualifying heats and one final heat across two categories: the Mixed 200 meters in a 20-paddler boat and, for the first time, a 10-paddler boat. Thanks to our preparation with our own 10-paddler boat, we were able to adapt to the unique shape of this new racing experience. True to Tellico Heat’s spirit, we rose to the challenge, finishing 4th overall in both events, while also winning all three heats in the 10-paddler category.

Many team members experienced their first race and were clearly bitten by the racing bug, with emotions running high as tears of joy were shed after the first heat—it was a truly beautiful moment. In the 20 Paddler Mixed Race, we secured 5th place overall and achieved 4th place overall in the 10 Paddler Mixed Race, culminating in a victory in our final heat.

TellicoHeatDragonBoatClub  This was the first time that Tellico Heat brought both a Mixed Team to compete in a 10-Person Race (200m) and a Mixed 20 Person Race (200m) Tellico Heat 10 Person Boat placed 4th overall, winning 2 of 3 heats and the 20 Person Boat placed 5th overall. The team brought 23 club members plus our Coach as our Drummer on all three heats! It was a hot, joyful, fun-filled, spirited day of competition! We will be back to this amazing venue! For many, this was their first race competition, and their excitement spilled over with delight! It was an exhilarating day of competition. Our first 10-Person Boat race was incredible! The shape of the boat is a bit more streamlined than our “new to us” boat at home, but it certainly sparked us on to want to participate in more 10-Person Boat Competitions! Montgomery First Responders, EMT, Firefighters took first place, again! It was tough competition with no age brackets.
